Enjoy a bright and sunny corner residence at The Columbia with one bedroom, one bath plus a bonus den! The upper-floor apartment with its western exposure offers a spacious 841 square foot layout, with the added advantage of two private outdoor spaces. Entering through the large front foyer, you’ll be delighted by pale blonde oak floors and a large open living area with Hunter Douglas shades that allow abundant natural light inside while still ensuring privacy.
The great room concept is complemented by an open gourmet kitchen with dark granite counters and island, hanging pendent lights, Poggenpohl cabinetry, a Viking gas range, Sub-Zero fridge and a recently replaced microwave. Enjoy intimate gatherings out on the extra-large, 210 square foot private roof terrace. There’s also the luxury of an additional balcony off the living area. You’ll relish exceptional light and airiness from the large corner windows and sliders. The den also gets plenty of sun, and can used as an extra bedroom or an excellent work-from-home space.
The owner’s suite with its twin window set also has a deep walk-in closet with an Elfa organizer, and berber carpet. The accompanying dual-entry bath has marble tile, Poggenpohl cabinets, an extended vanity and a shower/tub combo. A stacked washer and dryer tuck neatly into a closet for your convenience; individually controlled central A/C and heat is another plus.
The condo comes with a parking space in the underground garage, as well as extra storage. Amenities at The Columbia are perennially impressive, with a friendly staffed front desk and concierge, a rooftop swimming pool with deck, a club room, billiards, fitness center and three furnished guest suites. Residents also love the on-site Trader Joe’s—you won’t have to go outside for groceries when it snows!
This popular address has a unique tale to tell. The Columbia Hospital for Women and Lying-in Asylum was founded during the Civil War era when health care was scarce for women. The facility provided much-needed free services and lodging for wives and widows who would travel to Washington in search of missing soldiers. After its closure in 2002, the hospital was extensively renovated and transformed into one of our favorite condominiums in Washington.
The distinctive Italianate-style structures are surrounded by lush grassy lawns and shade trees. The presence of an on-site Trader Joe’s is a huge added bonus. There’s also the delightful rooftop pool, gym, concierge, clubhouse and a dry cleaners. Once you exit the estate-like grounds, you’ll be in the desirable West End neighborhood, between Dupont Circle and Georgetown. There are tons of great nearby bakeries and restaurants, including Tatte Bakery, Ris, Blue Duck Tavern, West Wing Café and Marcel’s by Robert Wiedmaier.
Runners, walkers and cyclists can enjoy the Rock Creek Trail, C & O Canal and the incredible National Mall with its majestic landmarks and reflecting pool. Equinox, SoulCycle and Orange Theory are also nearby for fitness enthusiasts. There are two Metro stations within walking distance - Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom. Add the local Whole Foods, a farmers’ market, and evenings at Kennedy Center into the mix—who could reasonably ask for more?
